Waiting on God
Still in my childhood era I suppose, reflecting memories and a time when life was simple - although you couldn’t have told me otherwise. I was hard pressed, according to my diary entries that life was lifing at 10. As I was outside walking Stella, the kids in our cul-de-sac were waiting on another to walk to the corner to catch the bus. Two were outside facing the door of another. One of them began counting aloud, suggesting that when he reached 10, they would peace out. Later that week, one of my sorors posted a picture of students waiting in a line to take a drink from the hallway fountain. I laughed again, thinking how we could count folx down, suggesting our agency to determine their level of thirst. And just like God, memories evolve into meaning. I feel a wee bit guilty for counting God down to move in the ways I deem are best. Deep sigh. Watching others drink while your girl is over here parched. When God finishes answering everyone else’s prayers and needs, is there any left “for the fish?”
God is speaking, “Silly rabbit. Have you forgotten that I own the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). You are out here believing like you did in elementary school, that there couldn’t possibly be enough water for everyone who thirsts and if your time table is the unction I need to answer your prayers.” #WomanDown God has been gathering me a lot lately. I’m just gonig to sit and relish in this space of refreshing and remembrance. Everything happening around me has propelled me to my knees in ways that are vital and necessary. Even a documented church girl like myself can stand in the place of needing to experience trust in a way that unequivocally demonstrates that if God doesn’t do it, “it” won’t get done. He hasn’t forgotten. He still cares. The Blood still works. He is for me. What if the circumstances of life present as an invitation to return to the childhood belief and simplicity that is critical when it feels like your prayers are being shuffled to the back of the line? In the hallway of my elementary school, if you had to step out of line, you could ask someone to hold your place - even though the practice wasn’t necessarily honored by all parties. One could engage a countdown as likened to Times Square but it didn’t mean things would move faster. Yet, we serve a God that doesn’t require any of our rituals. He is sovereign. And accepting the reality of God performing miracles, equally means accepting the reality when God chooses not to as well. Nevertheless, God has really done more than I ever imagined and whether each of my prayers get ticked off my list or not, I know that He can! I know when He’s not healing me - He’s healing someone else. When my money is not stretching, He’s extending someone else’s. When I experience grief, joy is someone else’s portion. And when things turn in my favor (and they will), I can praise Him with as the youngins say, with the same energy for the same God.
Whatever you are counting God in for, standing in the depths of your need, just know you’re not in it by yourself. And for pete’s sake, don’t anoint yourself as the line leader - that job is already taken. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom (Luke 12:32).
