Look At Your Feet!

I talk a lot about Stella, just as I did Diamond. There is something I learn daily, particularly if I avail myself to slow down and lean in. I work remotely, which is perfect for a goldendoodle who loves to be with their person at all times. She follows me everywhere, throughout the house, in the restroom and definitely in the closet where she likes to sleep. As I get dressed she constantly looks at my feet. When I’ve finished dressing and grab socks, she looks relieved. She knows that suggests me going to the home office to work. However on the other hand when I grab shoes, the anxiety sets in. Whichever option I engage, she spends time looking at my feet to determine my next. As I witnessed her practice this week, I thought, maybe Stella shouldn’t be the only one looking to determine what’s next. Every now and then, perhaps we all need to take a look to see precisely where we’re headed.
Joshua 1:3 reads, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.” Yet our soles won’t tread anything if we are too anxious to take a step. For when we’ve set our mind to move in purpose, even when we don’t have all the answers, we can expect God to show up and serve as a tangible and miraculous GPS in our lives. In this season, we cannot afford to pause. We serve a prayer answering God. Our hesitation can hold up the answer that someone so desperately needs. Stella knows when I put shoes on or carry them downstairs that I’m going somewhere. How do we signal to others, friends or foes that we are transitioning to do what God has called us to do? Even when I put socks on instead of shoes, it’s still filled with purpose. I’m preparing to engage, to deploy, to persist. Whether we choose to watch or read the news daily, we know evil is increasingly availing itself in the earth. We cannot afford to stand in our anxiousness as Stella expresses - we must do it even if we have more questions than answers. We must trust the God in us over we ourselves. God created us and orchestrated every fabric of our being. Should we be foolish to believe that God isn’t aware of our trepidation? Of course not! He fashioned us with our uncertainties, our apprehensions and our avoidance tactics and yet still has expectation of us to do His will in the earth.
As we still embrace the first month of the year, I’m engaged and committed to move for God even as each of the coordinates haven’t presented. We can look at our feet or we can look at God. The choice is ours.
